Job summary
The Kolvin Service team is based at St Nicholas Hospital, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne.
The service is a community adolescent forensic mental health service for young people aged 10-18 that provides mental health and forensic Inreach services into two Secure Children's Homes in the region, (Kyloe House and Aycliffe Secure Centre) and also provides regional and national adolescent forensic community services.
This post is for the Inreach arm of the service based at Aycliffe Secure Centre, County Durham.
Main duties of the job
Clinical experience of working with Children and Young People
Be a competent clinical practitioner using assessments, interventions and evaluation to facilitate therapeutic goals
Familiar with a range of formal and informal clinical and forensic assessments/tools
Knowledge and experience of a variety therapeutic modalities to include DBT, CBT, EMDR & PBS
Experience of providing teaching and consultation to multi professional groups
Knowledge of attachment theory and family development and systems
Clinical experience of a mental health/learning disability population
Demonstrable ability to engage and work with patients collaboratively in group and 1:1 settings
Research & Audit Skills
Experience of using routine and data driven outcome measures
Knowledge and experience of working with people with neurodevelopmental disorders
The following should be considered desirable or post holders should have a commitment to attaining them:
Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, The Children Act and Criminal Justice Sentencing Guidelines
Knowledge of DBT skills
Awareness of autism specific assessments, eg ADOS, ADI
Knowledge and experience of Academic Research
Clinical experience of working in forensic settings

- Doctoral level training in forensic psychology (or equivalent conferring eligibility for HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist), including specifically models of psychopathology and risk, clinical psychometrics and Neuropsychology, two or more evidence based psychological interventions and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society and the HCPC.

- Ability to organise and prioritise own workload and to function with a high degree of clinical autonomy regarding choice of therapeutic interventions/ models and entry to and discharge from own caseload.
