Assistant Psychologist

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Older Adult Community Treatment team as an Assistant Psychologist. We provide quality care and interventions for older people and their families in the Newcastle area. We are a committed and integrated multidisciplinary team including nurses and community practitioners, psychiatrists, support workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and the psychology team (including clinical, trainee and assistant psychologists and mental health well being practitioners . We are recruiting an Assistant to support our work in the community. The role will involve working alongside the multidisciplinary and psychology teams to deliver psychological interventions; carrying out assessments under supervision; research and audit work and aiding with formulation sessions.

You will also be part of the wider Older People's team looking at care and structured interventions provided by the team. You will be part of service projects identifying and promoting good practice in the delivery of older peoples mental health in a secondary community treatment team. This will include research and evaluation skills and the dissemination of audits to wider networks. It will also include skills of teaching others within the service.

You will be part of a dynamic and progressive service. You will have access to high quality and regular supervision and CPD, teaching and training and supervision groups.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will offer and support work in the older peoples community mental health team.

Some of the roles that would be included within this post include:

  • Clinical: 1:1 Psychological Interventions, alongside Clinical Psychologists, and other members of the MDT.
  • Support of psychological services: Observing/ shadowing/ supporting the work of the qualified psychologists, team formulations and formulation meetings, teaching and training.
  • Supporting our Service Development: Psychological and service/MDT audits.

Working with and alongside a range of staff members including Clinical Psychologists, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychiatrists, Carers. Working with and alongside third sector agencies to provide psychological support to service users.
