We are looking to recruit a part time (22.5 hours per week) Band 3 Administration Officer to join the Gender Dysphoria Service based at Benfield House on the Walkergate Park Hospital site in Newcastle upon Tyne.
The Northern Region Gender Dysphoria Service is a service for people who are seeking to explore their gender identity or reduce discomfort caused by a discrepancy between their assigned sex and their gender identity. This includes people who want to change physical aspects of their gender as well as those who do not.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be:
- Non-judgmental, used to working to a high degree of confidentiality and sensitivity.
- Confident, motivated and enthusiastic.
- Well-organised and structured.
- Able to be self-directed, motivated and contribute positively within a team.
Skilled and experienced with:
- Experience of working in a secretarial or administrator role.
- Fast, accurate typing and note-taking skills is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A good understanding of the RiO patient information system would be beneficial, however training will be provided.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
- An awareness of transgender issues and gender diversity is desirable.
Day-to-day duties will include:
- The provision of named admin support and diary management to identified members of the medical and clinical team.
- Audio typing/formatting assessments, letters and medical reports from central inbox.
- Preparation and taking notes of meetings.
- Dealing with high volumes of phone calls and e-mails, the content of which can sometimes be of a challenging nature.
- Processing confidential patient information within the RiO electronic system.
- Handling petty cash in line with Trust policies.
- Face to face contact with service users by way of occasional Reception cover.
