Job summary
An exciting opportunity has a risen for a Specialist Nurse to work within the Acute Inpatient pathway at St Georges Hospital. The post holder will offer assessment, consultation and short-term intervention for patients under the care of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust with needs relating to Acute Mental Illness.
The post holder will work in close collaboration with patients, families and other professionals and services involved the person's care, including acute trust colleagues, mental health trust teams, primary care, social services, housing and homelessness services, substance misuse services, schools and colleges, ambulance services, the police and other criminal justice agencies.
The post-holder will be required to conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment that considers the relationship between the person's mental and physical health, their social situation and their current mental state in formulating person-centred and needs-based care plans. They will support the wider inpatient team, providing specialist training, advice and guidance in order to scaffold care and treatment.
The post-holder will be required to assess complex clinical risk and to devise risk management plans that competently address identified areas of risk and deliver effective safeguarding for the individual and others around them. The post holder will provide training to staff across the site and Trust.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be working as part of an enhanced multi disciplinary team, consisting of medics, nurses, psychologists, and allied health professionals, delivering high quality care to inpatients.
The successful post holder will provide enhanced clinical leadership for the staff working across the service. They will provide a range of learning opportunities, including formal teaching sessions, group clinical supervision sessions, task shadowing, role modelling, etc. related to Acute mental health needs and assessments.
The successful post holder will take an active lead in audit and Acute wards service development , contributing to the evidence base for treatment approaches. They will also take a lead in complex cases, e.g. complex risk management, safeguarding, etc. in line with trust policy and procedures.
