A full time Senior Peer Supporter post has become available to join the Universal Crisis team in the Working Age Adult pathway.
The Team forms part of an ageless service working very closely in collaboration with the younger and older persons pathways of the Universal Crisis Team with the principal objective of offering assessment and home treatment to working age adults experiencing a mental health crisis, as an alternative to hospital admission.
This role is based at St Georges Park Hospital in Morpeth although covers the localities of Northumberland and North Tyneside, offering the opportunity to work across areas with beautiful countryside and stunning coastlines.
We are looking for a Senior Peer Supporter who has experience of working in a Peer Support role to join our Crisis service. The post holder will support the continued development of the Peer Supporter role within the Universal Crisis service as well as providing experienced support to service users utilize their own personal lived experience of recovery and mental health challenges, or that of caring for another, through sharing your own experience, establishing mutual connection based on this and most importantly being able to offer and inspire hope for others.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide mentorship and guidance to band 3 peer supporters across the Universal Crisis team to help further embed the peer support culture across the service.
You will be expected to offer a different perspective and understanding through:
- Sharing stories to find a mutual connection.
- Supporting individuals to identify personal goals and plans.
- Group work, as well as 1:1 work, using wellness plans and tools. You will co-develop and facilitate groups, dependent on your experience, working with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Recording progress and concerns, working in a manner which ensures confidentiality and security.
- Building carer confidence towards their own aspirations in life and extending their own networks and support.
- Demonstrating and apply Senior Peer Support skills to help develop the peer support service
This will be a challenging, but rewarding role. You will draw upon your skills as an experienced Peer Supporter to work with people who are experiencing a range of mental health difficulties, high distress and risk, therefore must feel confident in working to demonstrate and communicate strong recovery values, inspiring hope and empowerment in others. You must have the ability to communicate where there are barriers to understanding, and must be able to work as part of a team.
