Job summary

An opportunity has arisen with the Central Finance team for an Assistant Accountant. The primary objectives of the role are to support delivery of accurate, reliable and timely financial information to the Inpatient Care Group and to support the quality of the financial ledger and reporting requirements of the Trust.

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated individual to support and contribute to the development of the Central Finance Team. The successful applicant will have relevant finance experience and a high standard of excel knowledge. The postholder will be expected to provide a financial support, information and advice service to budget holders.

The post will be based at Arran House, St Nicholas Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne

Main duties of the job

Support the Central Finance Team in providing a high quality financial management service.

Organise, co-ordinate, input and manipulate data within the computerised accounting system. Take a lead on development of the financial reporting system.

Act as representative for Trust on Oracle network forums.

Assist in the quality co-ordination and completion of financial reports to meet statutory and other deadlines.

Assist in the production of annual budgets, taking a lead on the technical processes involved in this.

Analyse complex financial trends and compile forecasts of income and expenditure.

Investigate queries and provide advice, support and training to managersTo ensure that financial controls are maintained with SFI's and governance guidelines.

Ensure all general ledger input is correctly coded and reported.

Reconciling sub ledgers to general ledger.

To contribute to the continuous review and improvement of financial procedures to drive efficiency and quality.

Support production of information required for internal and external audit review.

Essential

  • AAT Level 4 or equivalent
  • In exceptional circumstances working towards the necessary qualification

Desirable

  • Part qualified CCAB/CIMA

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a financial environment
  • Experience of using a financial ledger package
  • High Level Excel Skills
  • Experience of managing relationships with colleagues across a range of disciplines within the organisation
  • Good knowledge of financial/business environment facing a large complex NHS Trust
