Job summary
The North Cumbria Inpatient Care Group has an exciting opportunity for a motivated, values driven and passionate senior nurse for the roleasNurse Consultant.
The Nurse Consultant will have significant clinical experience and a proven recordof clinical leadership, change management and innovation. The role will encompass expert clinical nursing care along with key responsibilities for service developments, education and training, professional leadership and consultancy.
The successful candidate will need to be a First level Registered Nurse, hold a recognised teaching qualification and have a Postgraduate qualification at Masters level or equivalent experience, as well as evidence of experience in therapeutic interventions relevant to the specialty, i.e. nurse Prescribing, CBT, DBT, PSI, EFT, NLP and Family Interventions, Group work and will have Advanced level therapeutic training in one of the above modalities.
It is desirable for the applicant to be an Approved Clinician and Non-Medical Prescriber with experience of the application of the mental health act and in working with working age adults with a functional mental health illness who require admission to an Adult Acute inpatient ward.
Main duties of the job
As a Nurse Consultant, the post holder will contribute to the strategic direction for the development of nursing practice within designated Clinical Business Unit, and more generally across the locality group and the Trust.
Will take the lead in extending boundaries and creating frameworks for the enhancement of nursing within their specialty. The post holder will also continue to strive towards excellence in nursing care and communicate this excellence to colleagues both within the organisation and externally.
To exercise full responsibility and autonomy for the therapy of clients ensuring appropriate assessment, formulation and interventions communicating with the internal agent and others involved with the care on a regular basis.
To provide direct AC/RC duties implementing assessment and treatment to specified patients identified who have a learning disability and/or personality disorder and/or mental illness, and work alongside a Medical AC (and the multi-professional team) to provide a comprehensive service for their patients within the confines of the Mental Health Act

To exercise all AC/RC responsibilities in statutory decision making with regard to patient care (to include renewal of detention, granting leave and discharge from detention or on a CTO; liaising with and reporting to the Ministry of Justice where required; communicating with families and teams; preparation and delivery of statutory reports; providing evidence at tribunals, in Court and at Managers hearings etc.)
To develop knowledge and further the evidence base with a specified group of patients and to develop and deliver specific treatments that will reduce the risk posed by patients of future harm.
To take leadership and raise the profile of the work the team is delivering; provide guidance, feedback and audit information to shape development of the ward / team for services and patients which the AC/RC is allocated.
