Job summary

Within the Perinatal Community team an opportunity has arisen to advertise a Nursery Nurse post. We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our team.

Having a baby can be a time of great excitement and joy for the expectant parents, but for many it is also a huge transition with tremendous physical and emotional change. One in five women will experience a mental health difficulty during the perinatal period.

The emergent and existing mental health difficulties that occur during the perinatal period need to be valued and treated with the same urgency as physical health problems. Timely and effective treatment not only minimises the risks for the mother and her partner, but also minimises the risks to her child's emotional, social and cognitive development. Of the known costs of perinatal mental health problems, 72% relate to the child. The impact of adverse childhood events (ACES) and the 1001 Critical Days Manifesto highlight this further: the perinatal period is a unique opportunity to support parents which in turn supports the mental (and physical) health of the next generation

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to provide a caring and supportive environment to ensure the optimum health and social wellbeing of each mother and baby and facilitating the mother infant relationship.

Work in collaboration with parents and multi-professionals to develop individualised and group programmes of care.

You will work as a member of the Multi-disciplinary Team ensuring that high quality individualised care is delivered which ensures safety and a commitment to promoting motherhood, recovery and wellbeing and maximising independence.

They will provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity.

The post holder will contribute to the further delivery of this service in line with the Long Term Plan, NICE Guidance, DOH, NHS England and trust policy and process in determining developmental priorities.

The Perinatal Community Team has been established for over 25 years and is well regarded, previously being nominated for Team of the Year in the Trust awards. The Team provides assessment, intervention and care co-ordination for women with, or at risk of experiencing, moderate to severe mental illness either during pregnancy or up to one year postpartum. Working with other services (including Initial Response Service), it assesses and manages risk relating to mental illness. It works closely with colleagues in universal services (Community Midwifery, Health Visiting, GPs), Obstetrics, Health Psychology, IAPT and Social Care (when involved). Where women are known to other secondary mental health teams it will accept transfer of care, co-work or provide augmentation appropriate to the needs of the woman. The team is annually peer reviewed by the Royal College of Psychiatrists Centre for Quality and Innovation (CCQI) and has received favourable reports.
