Job summary
We are seeking to appoint 4 Consultant Psychiatrists in Child & Adolescent who will work within the multidisciplinary community Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CYPS). The vacant posts are outlined below:
1 x Monkwearmouth Hospital, Sunderland and South Tyneside1 x Benton House, Newcastle and Bensham Hospital, Newcastle/Gateshead2 x St Georges Park, Northumberland.The successful candidate will join a clinical team including consultants, nurses, psychologists, therapists, and a wider medical workforce. The successful candidates will develop a personal development plan for lifelong learning. We can also offer new appointees the chance to extend their development.
Main duties of the job
As a consultant in the team you will join a multidisciplinary team providing high-quality care to young people and families in the CYPS in the Getting More Help service.
The post holder will be expected to be involved in formulation of mental health difficulties, supporting the team with the diagnosis and developing a management plan.
Supporting the team with risk assessments and devising a risk management plan.
To work with primary care colleagues.
Make decisions regarding the appropriate time of adding pharmacological interventions to treatment package.
Work closely with our colleagues working in social care, attend strategy meetings when appropriate.
The posts are substantive and full-time posts however we would be happy to consider applicants available on a part time or fixed term basis, or those seeking flexible working.

Essential
- MBBS (or equivalent)
- Registration with the GMC (or eligible to become registered) with a licence to practice
- Included on GMC Specialist Register or eligible for inclusion, or included within six months of CCT
- Approved Clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
Desirable
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- CCT or equivalent in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
- Has undergone training in educational supervision
- Has undergone training in appraisal
