Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in partnership with Changing Futures, it is a four-year, £64 million programme that seeks to test new ways of bringing together the public sector and community sector to address cross-cutting issues and to drive the modernisation of public services for people experiencing multiple disadvantages.
As a Changing Futures caseworker, you will work directly with individuals experiencing multiple disadvantages including and not limited to addiction, mental health, involvement in the criminal justice system, domestic abuse and homelessness. You will engage people within a community setting and, work in partnership with a Changing Futures Peer Specialist, you will build a relationship that promotes rapport as you travel alongside individuals in a way that promotes trust and inspires hope.
Rather than being constrained by limited-service pathways, your role will be to build relationships with the people we support and use what we call our 'liberated method.' In a nutshell, this means 'do whatever matters to the person, as long as it does no harm and breaks no laws.' We expect this to lead to some unusual activities (dog grooming and piano playing are past examples), but we go where the work takes us.
Although the post is predominantly 9 to 5 Monday to Friday there may be a need to work outside of these hours across 7 days.
Main duties of the job
Working for Changing Futures is an opportunity to work directly with individuals experiencing multiple disadvantages, employing the Changing Futures' 'liberated method' to help individuals focus on and pursue what matters to them, and to use this to generate learning to reshape the system to better support these individuals.
An integral part of the role is to have the ability to build strong relationships with other support providers, services, partners and agencies, including statutory services
The successful candidate will work to the two rules of the Liberated Method of 'do no harm' and 'stay legal' you will have autonomy to;
- Make decisions in the work you do with the individual, to reduce risk and meet needs
- Use your own discretion to respond to dynamic needs and risks as they present
- Manage financial resources to enable you to enact the decision you make, with the individual, where current provision does not exist or is not available
We require a highly motivated person to support the shaping of the Changing Futures Northumbria Programme in helping to identify changes needed to systems and services in order to improve the outcomes for people facing multiple disadvantages.
