An opportunity has arisen for a full time Advanced Speech and Language Therapist to work into the Learning Disability pathway within the Secure Care Service.
We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic individual, with specialist clinical experience in learning disability and/or autism, or in secure care settings, who will be able to oversee the clinical work we provide into the learning disability pathway. This includes work into both secure wards and community settings. The base for this post will be at Northgate Hospital in Morpeth, Northumberland.
The successful candidate will be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and have the skills and knowledge to develop the delivery of speech and language therapy within this service, whilst providing excellent, high quality input. They will be managed and supervised by the Clinical Lead SALT for Secure Care, who holds responsibility for all pathways within the secure care service.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated support for communication; providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation as required.
They will need to be confident in providing high quality, evidence based assessments and interventions and have an understanding and experience of working with people with a range of complex issues. Liaison with secure care inpatient teams, community services and partner organisations will also form a key part of this role.
They will possess excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to work independently. There will be a requirement to share knowledge and skills specific to speech and language therapy, to other members of the team including stakeholders.
They will contribute to, write and review care plans and provide high quality patient centred care, with an emphasis on understanding and reducing restrictive practice. They will have a varied caseload and will work closely with the clinical lead for the team. They will be responsible for guiding and supervising other SALT's or SALT assistants working within the learning disability pathway.
In addition to clinical work there is an expectation that the successful candidate will taking on project management and some leadership work, to support the development of the learning disability pathway in secure care, under the supervision and guidance of the Clinical Lead SALT.
