Job summary
Currently based in Bamburgh Clinic in Newcastle our medium secure in-patient mental health and personality disorder services are moving imminently to a purpose-built hospital (Sycamore) on the Northgate site in Morpeth, which is also the current location of our low secure and learning disability services. This will provide an integrated centre of excellence for those requiring secure mental health, learning disability and personality disorder services. Psychological services are a core component in our MDT model and the new hospital offers the team an opportunity to work across traditional service boundaries in an integrated way.
The services provide recovery-focused, trauma-informed care to individuals with mental disorders and offending behaviour/serious risk histories either detained under the Mental Health Act or in community pathways. These include a newly configured community care model aiming to reduce length of admission in secure hospital and outreach services supporting individuals as they leave hospital. A focus on understanding the adverse experiences shaping the lives and choices made by our service users assists in collaborative work to enhance life experiences as well as reducing risks. The Psychological Services department provides care across the above pathways .
Secure care services have research and academic links with local Universities and we provide training placements for doctorate and PhD students from a number of applied training courses.
Main duties of the job
The main specialist areas for this post initially will be our in-patient Personality Disorders ward (specially commissioned as part of the Offender Personality Disorder Pathway) and our bed-based Learning Disability services, although the postholder will also contribute to the development of a new model of integrated psychological care pathways across adult secure services.

Psychology Services within the Trust are highly valued and there is active support for CPD activities for all grades of staff.
The Trust welcomes all applications, regardless of age, gender, race, disability or sexual orientation. We particularly welcome applications from Black and Ethnic minority groups.
We are committed to Improving Working Lives, and offer a range of benefits and opportunities including childcare vouchers, Trust Carer Coordinator, flexible working, training and development options, and a staff counseling service.
All of our clinical posts are subject to CRB clearance prior to commencement.
Specific duties may change according to mutually agreed service needs and development plans.
