Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Specialist Children's and Young Peoples Service for a Band 8a Clinical Nurse Specialist to develop an exciting new role within the inpatient team and Ferndene Hospital.

The successful applicant will have will be competent and confident in monitoring, identifying and risk management around the physical and mental health of service users with complex eating disorder difficulties, and be able to develop robust care plans and risk management plans to support them.They will also offer specialist interventions to young people who require an inpatient admission for treatment for their eating disorder. This role includes offering specialist assessment, providing ongoing evidence-based psychological interventions, risk management, relapse prevention and care coordination of a complex caseload.

Applicants must hold a first level RNLD/RNMH qualification.

Main duties of the job

As well as working with service-users, families and carers, the role involves working collaboratively with the MDT, Community Eating Disorder Services (CEDS) and other services including Community Treatment Teams , GPs, voluntary sector, and external agencies including the acute trusts and Tees Esk Wear Valley Eating Disorder Services. The successful applicant will offer clinical supervision and clinical guidance to other members of the inpatient team and wider MDT. The role will include leading Group Supervisions, weekly reviews of inpatients with an eating disorder, and the weekly referral meeting of children and young people referred for treatment for an eating disorder.

The successful applicant will work closely with Specialist CYPS case managers when triaging new referrals, and regularly carrying out assessments jointly or independently.

The successful candidate will work closely with our community colleagues within CEDS to support the young person transitioning through the eating disorder pathway and discharge back to the community.

There is an expectation the successful applicant will be involved in supporting the ongoing development and launch of the new FREED pathway which focuses on early intervention for younger people.

Education and Qualification

Essential

  • First level registered nurse
  • Recognized teaching qualification.
  • Postgraduate qualification at Masters level or equivalent.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Evidence of experience in therapeutic interventions relevant to working with enduring mental health problems i.e. PSI, CBT, Family Interventions, Group Work
  • Advanced level therapeutic training in one of the above modalities
