Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within First Step, North Cumbria's IAPT service to appoint a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP), fixed term for 12 months - remote working would be an option for this post.

We are a dedicated team offering a range of psychological therapies and services to treat people and support recovery within a stepped care model. The team is made up of approximately 80 clinicians including Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, High Intensity Therapists, Counsellors and Employment Advisors.

The PWP role within the service is extremely varied and will allow you to gain a range of experience. PWP's in the service provide low intensity CBT interventions, including guided self-help treatment (Face to face and over the phone), Psycho-educational workshops and computerised CBT (cCBT) to patients experiencing common mental health problems. PWPs also complete Triage assessments and have involvement with service development and promotion. PWP's receive regular case management supervision, line management supervision, clinical skills supervision and further training opportunities, to ensure development of core skills and practice.

This service is an 8am - 8pm service weekdays with some Saturday shifts required. The post holder will be required to offer appointments to patients from across the locality.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work as part of the IAPT team, providing low intensity interventions to service users with mental health problems.

These include a range of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self management interventions offered as individual or group interventions.

The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that high quality individualised care is delivered which ensures safety and a commitment to promoting recovery and wellbeing, and maximising independence.

The post-holder will provide compassionate care that is based on empathy,kindness, respect and dignity.

The post-holder will work within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.

If not already registered, the post holder will be supported to meet the requirements of registration, with an expectation that an application will be made within 6 months.

Essential

  • Qualification from a BPS accredited PWP Programme

Desirable

  • Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or within a psychological therapy.
  • Psychology or other health related undergraduate degree.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with people with mental health difficulties.
  • Able to write clear reports and letters.
  • Knowledge of common mental health problems.
  • Knowledge of low intensity, evidence- based interventions.
