Job summary
Building on your past experience within a faith community/belief group, are you enthusiastic and passionate about delivering good quality spiritual and pastoral care to people using mental health services?
We seek a chaplain to work both with inpatients and community patients, as part of a large specialist chaplaincy team which provides religious, spiritual & pastoral care in a wide range of mental health & learning disability services. We provide training and clinical supervision in mental health to enhance your transferable skills.
You will be part of the teams at Hopewood Park in Sunderland (adults). You will also work at Ferndene Children/Young People's Unit in Prudhoe, and will offer community chaplaincy in Sunderland, visiting service-users in their own homes.
You will have had accredited faith or belief system training and post-qualification experience of spiritual and pastoral care, and have the vision and motivation to use your particular skills and interests in the challenging but rewarding environment of mental health. You will have a knowledge of and demonstrable sensitivity towards people from diverse belief traditions. You must be in good standing with a church / belief community that is endorsed by the Healthcare Chaplaincy Faith and Belief Group.
This post is open to employees within Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust and External Applicants. Interviews will be held via video conferencing (Microsoft Teams), on the afternoon of 12 December 2022.
Main duties of the job
To work as a member of the chaplaincy team which seeks, in the context of the fields of mental health, learning disabilities and neurological disorders, to meet the spiritual, religious and pastoral needs of the trust's patients, carers and staff within a framework of user choice, appropriate to their culture and within resources available.
To work with service users, staff, volunteers and carers, their associated community-based services and faith communities.
The chaplain will offer inpatient chaplaincy to adults at Hopewood Park, and to young people at Ferndene.
The chaplain will also undertake community work in Sunderland, working with patients referred to chaplaincy by the community mental health services of the Trust, but also offering advice to faith groups as to how they can support people in the community who are experiencing mental health difficulties.
Although working with a great deal of independence and freedom to act, the chaplain will belong to the local teams caring for the particular hospitals, who form part of the wider Chaplaincy Team of the Trust.
About us
We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. In return we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.
