Job summary
Do you have an interest in working with Veterans?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic practitioner with effective interpersonal and communication skills to join our Veterans Transition Intervention and Liaison Service (TILS) on a substantive basis.
The service aim is to provide care pathways for military veterans in need of mental health services. The service offers a single point of contact for the North of England, followed by clinical triage, assessment and intervention based upon a CPA status approach. The service has an outreach/ community case management model which complements the existing NHS tertiary, secondary and primary care mental health pathways, including crisis services/liaison psychiatric services/criminal justice liaison services and local Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services.
There are four elements of the service:
- Transition service for those leaving HM Armed Forces
- Delivery of brief, NICE guidance-approved interventions
- A service for veterans with complex presentations
- A liaison gateway for veterans, their families and none deployed reservists.
The service currently operates over 5 days of the week (Mon-Fri), 9am to 5pm, however flexibility is required.
Main duties of the job
The challenging nature of this post requires applicants to be a suitably experienced mental health practitioner preferably with experience of working with Military Veterans and difficult to engage service user groups. You will need effective communication skills, established skills in clinical assessment and risk management and have previously delivered therapeutic intervention as an autonomous practitioner. A commitment to multiagency working is essential including working closely with charities and 3rd sector organisations.
Geographically the TILS team cover the whole geographical area of the Trust and you will be expected to travel to assess service users within this area. (Car driver essential). The team are currently split-based between in-office and home working- the ability to work autonomously and as an independent practitioner is essential. The multidisciplinary team meet on a weekly basis to review case management and discuss treatment and signposting relevant to the service user group.
Staff will attend a range of statutory and mandatory training applicable to all staff in the Trust. This includes in-house training and access to relevant specific courses and seminars to enhance the skills and knowledge of the team. Links with Third party organisations and military services and access to service specific conferences and interface discussions. A period of induction would be offered to establish these links and shadow colleagues within the service.
