Job summary
We are looking to recruit an experienced registered nurse. We welcome applications from all nurse registrations.
CNDS is a specialist tertiary service working in collaboration with local multi-agency services to provide second opinions for children and young people across the North East of England and North Cumbria, who may have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other co-occurring mental health or neurodevelopmental concerns. CNDS provides outpatient, day patient and outreach services, this includes detailed diagnostic second opinion assessments, alongside consultation and advice on management. The team is commissioned to provide ASD training to local clinicians. As a clinical academic team, CNDS have close working links with Newcastle University and are involved in the delivery of research studies and there may be opportunities to for the nurse to become involved in future research projects.
The post holder would have experience/interest in working with children and young people who have ASD and an understanding of, or skills in the diagnostic assessment process. They will have a child centred focus with a creative flexible approach to supporting each child's specific needs. There is an expectation that the post holder will develop their clinical skills to enable them to contribute to the assessment, diagnostic formulation and consultation service that CNDS provides.
Main duties of the job
The role involves:
- Observation of children in the home and school environments
- Liaising with parents and other professionals from other organisations
- Acting as a representative for CNDS in external multi-disciplinary meetings
- Participating in internal MDT team meetings
- Opportunities to support student nurses in the role of a clinical placement supervisor/assessor
- Having an individual caseload of children and young people up to the age of 18 years.
- Producing written summaries of observations
- To individually assess risk and document findings
- To carry out physical health monitoring with children and young people
- Supporting the specialist teacher with small groups of children in a bespoke environment i.e. The Hub base in CNDS. These children are mainly aged 3-8 years.
- The post holder will actively contribute to second opinion assessments for autism alongside team members, following the CNDS assessment pathway.
The role will involve supervision and support to nursing colleagues within the team
