Job summary

The Department of Colorectal Surgery in North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic new colleague to join us on our journey to provide high quality Colorectal care for the future in an organisation committed to clinical leadership and medical education.

We provide a 24/7 consultant of the week service for emergency colorectal and general surgery patients, elective colorectal operating lists, outpatient treatments and clinics.

We have a strong composite workforce made up of Surgical ACP's, Physician Assistants and Doctors Assistants, supporting our SDEC and ward areas, as well as clinics and endoscopy. We also have a team of Nurse Specialists covering the needs of the service.

A full range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are available including Endoscopy, CT, MRI and interventional radiology.

The department contributes to a robust teaching programme for doctors in training, foundation doctors, Physicians Assistants and Surgical Care Practitioners.

This is an opportunity to join an organisation in which clinicians are at the forefront of Colorectal management with opportunities to practice and expand the services and treatments offered and close working relationships with the management team.

All successful candidates will be expected to submit documentation for the GMC Portfolio Pathway within 18 months of their start date.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic surgeons to join 6 other Colorectal consultants and 1 SAS doctor to deliver elective and emergency colorectal and emergency general surgery services. These posts offer the opportunity to develop sub specialist interests, to complement our current services. For those interested in taking on a role in leadership and management, the Trust offers opportunities for development and training.

We will work with you to shape your job plan upon successful appointment, review it with you after three months and then annually - so you can maintain the perfect fit. We are happy to explore portfolio roles with opportunities in academic posts, leadership and medical education. We will also provide the essential resources to support you in your duties, including administrative support.
