Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:

Qualifications

Essential

• Degree level education in Nursing
• NMC registration
• willing to work towards diabetes specific qualification specialist area (Diabetes e.g. Warwick Course A205, CIDC, Bradford Diabetes course) or will work towards within the first year of appointment

Desirable

• NST307 or equivalent
• diabetes related qualification such as Warwick or Bradford
• V300 prescribing

Experience

Essential

• Significant general nursing experience within the NHS
• To have detailed knowledge of all aspects of diabetes and associated risk factors.
• To have the ability to work autonomously, efficiently and professionally locality wide visiting patients in General Practice surgeries, Health centres, community and acute hospitals and emergency home visits
• Experience of teaching adults

Desirable

• DESMOND/ DAFNE/ Walking Away trainer
• Experience of undertaking clinical audit
• implementing diabetes specific treatment
• Inpatients nursing experience

Skills and Aptitude

Essential

• Demonstrable clinical skills within specialist area, including physical assessment skills and basic life support
• Ability to obtain and evaluate information to aid decision making.
• effective organisational skills to work across different areas of the service
• ability to work in isolation but part of a team
• cooperative, flexible and diplomatic
• Ability to manage difficult emotional situations

Desirable

• Familiarity and implementation of diabetes specific regimen

Personal Circumstances

Essential

• Willing to undertake training as required.

Other requirements

Essential

• Able to travel independently of public transport and be able to travel widely as and when required.

Knowledge

Essential

• General IT skills including experience of windows based software and MS Office
• Understanding of current NHS issues and initiatives
• Knowledge of clinical governance and its application
• Up to date knowledge of the developments in diabetes care
• knowledge of risk factors associated with diabetes
