Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:

• youth cautions, reprimands and final warnings will no longer be subject to automatic disclosure
• the multiple conviction rule has been removed, meaning that if an individual has more than one conviction, regardless of offence type or time passed, each conviction will be considered against the remaining rules individually, rather than being automatically disclosed.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Care Certificate or the willingness and ability to undertake (applicable for all non-registered support workers that provide health care)

Desirable

• NVQ 2 in care (or willingness to complete within one year of start date) or equivalent experience
• Commitment to continued development of knowledge and skills.

Experience

Essential

• Working with Adults in a care environment.
• Experience of working within a team

Desirable

• Experience of working within a rehabilitation setting.
• Experience of working in a community setting

Knowledge

Essential

• Knowledge of the NHS and Adult Social Care systems
• Knowledge of different approaches to care i.e. Rehab and Reablement

Desirable

• Understanding of some common medical conditions which may affect older people.

Skills

Essential

• Ability to work as a team member of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Able to exercise individual responsibility and judgement - be confident to work as a lone worker.
• Able to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients and carers - about a range of issues; using a range of technicques.
• Treats individuals with dignity, respect and be an empathic person
• Basic IT skills.

Desirable

• Ability to motivate people to achieve rehabilitation goals.
• Good time management skills

Personal circumstances

Essential

• Flexible and versatile approach to meet the needs of the service.
• Able to work over 7 days, covering the hours between 8am and 10pm.
• Respectful and professional

Other Requirements

Essential

• Clean current driving licence or ability to travel independently across North Cumbria
• Desire to encourage and support patients to remain as independent as possible.

Desirable

• Genuine desire to work with older people.
