This post will include the delivery of services within areas of most deprivation. It is essential that the post holder can work flexibly, independently and as part of a team. This post holder will work under the line management of the Midwife Manager for Public Health. The role will be varied, challenging, and rewarding as the services develop. You will be a motivated, passionate, organised, and proactive individual with experience in smoking cessation, infant feeding and knowledge of perinatal and infant mental health, or willingness to successfully complete training. The post is based at Cumberland Infirmary and involves working within a hospital and community environment. The post holder will be required to deliver in house education on e.g. the stop smoking agenda. The work days are between Monday and Friday and between the hours of 09:00 and 17:00.

Main duties of the job

This post will concentrate on providing the healthiest start possible to NCIC babies by providing early identification of needs, personalised smoking cessation support and intensive infant feeding information and support. Supporting women and their family's mental/social wellbeing and providing a follow-up service for any woman with an identified need, giving additional support, particularly to vulnerable families in the community. The role will see you work as part of a small close-knit team that integrates with Maternity, Health Visiting, stop smoking advisors and community agency colleagues. With key outcomes of delivering elements of the NHS Long Term Plan by reducing smoking in pregnancy as per the maternity pathway and increasing the number of mothers initiating and sustaining breastfeeding there is lots of scope for the team to identify needs early and make flexible adjustments to the service offer.
