Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

Skills and Aptitudes

Essential

• Self motivated, proactive and flexible
• Ability to use initiative appropriately
• Ability to work accurately to deadlines and under pressure, and prioritise workloads
• Ability to frequently switch between tasks as priorities and deadlines change
• Excellent time management skills
• Highly numerate and accurate
• Ability to concentrate for long periods of time on data input and analytical tasks
• Advanced IT and spreadsheet skills, with ability to create and maintain spreadsheets to reconcile, analyse and manipulate large volumes of data
• Ability to analyse, manipulate and present financial information using a range of analytical and IT skills

Knowledge

Essential

• Developed knowledge of capital accounting in a healthcare/commercial environment
• Computerised ledger systems. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Detailed knowledge of accounting concepts, e.g. accruals, prepayments, debtors and creditors
• Knowledge of accounting statements, eg PPE and Intangible Assets notes
• Understanding of internal financial control systems
• Knowledge of technical accounting issues, e.g. VAT

Experience

Essential

• Relevant capital accounting experience
• Working effectively in a team and on own initiative
• Undertaking financial analysis
• Providing written and numeric reports
• Providing information to external sources
• Working with finance computer systems, ledgers and coding structures

• Capital accounting experience within the NHS

Qualifications

Essential

• Good general education including Maths and English at GCSE level or equivalent
• AAT Technician level or equivalent qualification or demonstrable experience of successfully performing a substantially similar role

Desirable

• Actively studying towards CCAB/CIMA qualification
• ECDL or equivalent
