Job summary

Bank Chaplain Band 6

Under the guidance of the lead chaplain, to provide spiritual, pastoral and religious care of patients, relatives and staff within the Trust:-

to minister to patients and staff regardless of denomination, faith or belief within the hospital environment as requested

to work collaboratively with other members of the Chaplaincy team and with members of all local faith communities in respect of the spiritual, pastoral and religious care of patients, carers and staff

to participate in on-call cover and with the lead chaplain to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place for planned absences

to help towards the provision of a spiritual dimension to service developments.

Main duties of the job

  • As a member of an ecumenical and multi-faith team, to minister to patients, staff, and relatives, of faith or no faith, who request chaplaincy support.
  • Administer sacraments as required or refer to the appropriate person.
  • Minister with integrity to others who have a different philosophy, belief and value system.
  • Accompany relatives in visiting of deceased patients as requested.
  • Advise staff, patients or carers on spiritual and multicultural issues.
  • Visit wards and departments within sphere of responsibility.
  • Officiate at funerals of patients when the Trust has accepted responsibility for organising the funeral, and other funerals when required.
  • Contribute to an agreed 24 hour on call system.
  • Provide specialised advice and spiritual and emotional support to patients and relatives /carers, staff and chaplaincy volunteers.
  • Assist patients, relatives and staff to articulate their spiritual and religious needs and identify resources to address them.
