Job summary

We are looking forward to appointing a suitable candidate (ST3+ post-MRCS) in the post of 'Specialty Doctor in General and Colorectal Surgery'. The appointee will be required to work across trust sites to undertake clinical sessions.

The appointee will contribute to provision of emergency general surgery at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle (CIC) with a requirement to cover consultant-led clinics and theatre / day case surgery lists at CIC and West Cumberland Hospital (WCH), Whitehaven. The post will also provide senior decision making support for surgical emergencies at WCH on a rotational basis during the day.

Main duties of the job

The duties will include ward management of elective surgery patients, advice on in-patients under the care of other specialties on that site and assessment of emergency admissions/ A&E patients.

The post holder will share responsibility for teaching, co-supervising and training junior doctors, as well as having administrative responsibility for arranging rotas. A flexible approach to day to day working is essential to ensure appropriate cover during periods of other team members' holiday, study or sick leave.
