Job summary

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics based at the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven. (on a full-time or part-time basis). An element of cross site work to the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven is anticipated.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop a special interest to complement the other members of the department and will participate in the provision of services to the population of North Cumbria. This is an opportunity to join an organisation in which Clinicians are at the forefront of management.

The post currently attracts a discretionary recruitment premium of up to 15% (based on basic salary) per annum. This is payable for up to 4 years and is reviewed by the Trust on an annual basis.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will join the current specialty doctors to provide elective anaesthesia sessions and contribute to a resident full shift rota not expected to exceed 1in 8. Two 1:8 rotas are in place, one to support theatres and obstetrics and one to support ICU, both supported by a separate Consultant on-call.

For daytime work the successful applicant will be encouraged to work across a range of anaesthetic areas and develop areas of interest. There will be the expectation of working at both hospital sites to encourage greater experience.

The successful candidate will be experienced and highly motivated. They will be expected to participate fully within departmental activities, including teaching and audit. The job plan will remain flexible to allow for skills in all anaesthetic specialities to be maintained. The Trust will support Specialty Doctors who demonstrate that they have met the necessary criteria to pass through threshold 2 in the Speciality Doctor contract.
