Job summary

Peripatetic Practice Assessor Fixed Term for 12 months, up to 56 hours per week available

Are you an enthusiastic education leader ready for a new challenge? An exciting opportunity has arisen within Practice Development Team to support the development and implementation of our practice education priorities across North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS FT. The successful candidate will be joining a team comprising of Practice Development Leads for Clinical Skills, Apprenticeships and Preceptorship, Practice Education Facilitators, Clinical Educators, Practice Development Trainers and Administrative Staff. The Practice Development team support staff and learners in developing essential skills required in practice and support high quality clinical placements for pre-registration students and apprentices.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of high quality practice assessments for learners in the clinical setting contributing to high quality learning environments and will be required to work Trust wide within services where inter-professional learning opportunities are provided. The post holder will also be required to work with placement teams to promote and implement the use of coaching models and clinical supervision for learners in practice. The post holder will be required to support the breadth of the student experience, which may require cross boundary working.

The post holder will have experience working as a practice assessor and knowledge of the NMC Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment (2018). The post holder will be passionate about providing a quality learning experience and be committed to developing the learning environments within the Trust. The post holder will have good communication skills and up to date clinical skills. They will work collaboratively with students and the clinical teams to carry out robust assessments in practice.

The post holder will work under the direction of the PEF team and support clinical teams with assessment processes as required - this will involve trust-wide working. Up to 56 hours available per week - part time/flexible working would be considered.

Job responsibilities

Provision of high quality assessments for learners in practice, this will involve periodically working alongside learners in range of care settings and working collaboratively with practice teams to collate evidence for practice assessment

Provision of pastoral support and signposting

Assessing the quality of practice learning environments; escalating any concerns to the PEF team

Facilitating the development, and ensuring a sufficient provision of practice supervisors/ assessors across relevant service areas; providing supervision and support structures, building education in practice capability, consistency and efficiency.

Developing and maintaining links with Education Providers to practice supervisors. For example, contributing to curriculum development, validation and review, and the Annual Quality Review of the Education Contracts.

Support delivery of structured Interprofessional learning in practice for healthcare students, practice assessors and supervisors.

Assess the quality of learning environments against quality assurance standards, suggesting improvement measures to enhance the student learning experience.

Ensure early escalation complex issues relating to the student experience including the achievement of learning outcomes, competence and fitness for practice.

Plan and implement development resources to support the assessment processes for all healthcare students within the clinical setting.

Identify shortfalls in practice education within clinical teams and facilitate access to multi-professional educator programmes/ updates and training opportunities.

Provide best practice advice in a clinical setting for practice assessor/ supervisors and staff in relation to education in practice.

Network locally, regionally and nationally with peer group to support the sharing of best practice.

Develop the knowledge and skills to act as an expert resource/ champion of interprofessional learning in placement providers.

Communicate educational and practice information across placement providers and educational Institutions.

Ensure communication channels are used appropriately to facilitate the flow of information between internal and external partners.

Share best practice relating to quality assurance and interprofessional learning across placement providers.

Ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times in conjunction with organisational policies.

Ensure that academic rigor in practice learning is maintained, that learning outcomes can be met, and are aligned with Service reconfigurations.

Continuously monitor practice learning activities against quality assurance standards enabling ongoing enhancement of the learning experience.

Maintain and demonstrate up to date clinical skills and expertise to ensure appropriate support for students/mentors/educators to maintain safe working practice and development of competency

To review and audit compliance/ effectiveness of completion of student assessments and use of E-Roster for students

Audit the effectiveness/ impact of peripatetic assessor role and impact of student/ placement team experiences and compile relevant reports.
