Job summary

Are you a Band 6 Occupational Therapist wishing to work in a multi-disciplinary team specialising in end of life care, work with other health and social care professionals to develop the ethos of multi-disciplinary, integrated care and seamless services ensuring that patient care is delivered to the highest possible standard. A part time maternity leave cover for 12 months has become available within the Specialist Palliative care team based at Workington Community hospital covering the West of Cumbria.Working largely alone and unsupervised, assess patients, plan and implement care in the community and a range of other settings, provide advice and education to patients, carers and colleagues, maintain associated records.

Carry out delegated management tasks including line management and clinical supervision of other team members.

Work will include Community, Copeland Unit and Loweswater Suite (Specialist Palliative Care). Virtually and face to face patient care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Work independently as an autonomous practitioner within the specified specialist clinical area (s) responsible for managing a caseload of patients with a range of frequently complex conditions, appropriate to specialist knowledge and skill level and experience; providing flexible and patient centred programmes of Occupational therapy (OT) interventions. The post holder will, with other members of the team, offer a patient-centred, multi-disciplinary and holistic approach to patient care.
  • Work will include Community, Copeland Unit and Loweswater Suite (Specialist Palliative Care).
  • Post holder will be expected to support Palliative Care patients to remain independent and offer them appropriate functioning solutions.
  • Will take responsibility for the management of their own caseload and the case management of individual patients, whilst continuing to develop specialist clinical skills, knowledge and experience as identified in the post holder's Performance and Development Plan (PDP).
  • There is the opportunity to seek specialist advice from a senior OT with a specialist clinical knowledge and experience when required.
  • The post holder will undertake clinical and department support duties.
