Job summary
The Acute Oncology Service is multi-disciplinary team operating across Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven. The Service has gone from strength to strength in the last 12 months and we are now inviting applications for a Clinical Lead to join our Service.
The aim of the Acute Oncology Service is to provide early specialist input to Oncology patients presenting to hospital with acute complications of cancer or its treatment, enabling appropriate, evidenced based management in line with both local and national policies.
The role of Lead Clinician is to provide clinical leadership to support the Acute Oncology Service (AOS), including Metastasis of Unknown Origin (MUO) and Serious Non-Site Specific Symptoms Service (SNSSS) pathways. The post holder will oversee the management of patients on the caseload of AOS and to further develop of the model in line with national, corporate and divisional strategy.
Main duties of the job
The key requirements of the role are to:
- Provide strong clinical leadership and strategic influence across AOS, promoting quality, innovation and supporting the team to deliver high quality patient services.
- Provide clinical leadership to the Advanced Care Practitioners working with the AOS, Malignancy of Unknown Origin (MUO) and Serious Non-Site Specific Symptoms Service (SNSSS).
- To lead relevant MDT's for the above pathways.
- Promote and encourage development of effective cross-service clinical pathways, working collaboratively with other teams and services within and outside of the Trust.
- The Lead Clinician will ensure high quality, safe and effective patient care is delivered, where this care is experienced positively and is centred on their needs and circumstances.
- The Lead Clinician will provide leadership ensuring their composite workforce develop high quality evidence based care and interventions throughout the service.
- As an innovative and dynamic practitioner the Lead Clinician is committed to improving the patient experience, improving standards of care and services, commanding the confidence of colleagues within the service and other specialty teams across the Collaborative and the aligned Trusts.
- The Lead Clinician for AOS will use a matrix management style and influencing power to deliver high performance and support service development.
