Apprentice Midwife

We are pleased to offer this exciting NEW apprenticeship opportunity for current Healthcare Assistants with substantial experience of maternity services to develop their skills and train to be a Midwife with the University of Cumbria.

Entry requirements are:

  • 120-128 UCAS Tariff Points or a level 5 Foundation Degree in Healthcare

  • GCSE grade A-C/4-9 or Level 2 in English & Maths

  • Care Certificate

Applicants MUST possess GCSE Maths and English Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent functional skills level 2 and the certificates to evidence this along with the Care Certificate. You will be required to provide these prior to interview.

You must be able to work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week and be willing to work across North Cumbria for placements. This apprenticeship will commence in September 2023 and will last 3 years, on a secondment from your existing post. You will be paid Annex 21 of a Band 5 which is 65% of the top of the pay band 5 in year 1, 70% in year 2 and 75% in year 3. Your current hourly rate will be protected if higher than Annex 21.

Annual leave will need to be planned and allocated around University modules and placements as dates are compulsory.

Main duties of the job

Undertake and achieve the Midwife Apprenticeship to assist in providing specialist expertise to offer women choices in labour, which are safe and evidence based. Assess the full range of care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care throughout the antenatal, intra-partum and postnatal period for women and their babies. Work as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team providing care to women throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum continuum.

Committed to undertake and complete the Midwife Apprenticeship with the University of Cumbria leading to becoming a qualified midwife on the NMC register.
