Job summary

This is an eight-session highly specialist forensic mental health practitioner post in a Tier 4 Community Forensic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (FCAMHS) providing highly specialist case consultation and formulation, assessment and intervention planning for children and young people, presenting with risks of harm to others.

The FCAMHS service is commissioned by NHS England Specialist Commissioning (London Region) in partnership with NHS England Health and Justice (London Region), and forms part of a national network of similar FCAMHS services across the country.

This post is suitable for a Highly Specialist Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist or Clinical/Forensic Psychologist or Systemic Psychotherapist with experience of working with young people involved or at risk of being involved in the youth justice system and/or presenting with harmful sexual behaviours.

Candidates are encouraged to discuss the post informally prior to applying by emailing Dr Louisa Stokou at lstokou@tavi-port.nhs.uk

Main duties of the job

The Portman Community FCAMHS team is principally a tertiary referral service for locality CAMHS teams (including CAMHS/YOT link workers) and associated agencies, such as children's social care.

The team wishes to be accessible to all agencies (e.g. social services, youth offending teams (YOTs), prisons, courts, solicitors, education etc.) which may have contact with young people with mental health difficulties who either present serious risk of harm to others or are involved with the criminal justice system. For this reason initial contacts about possible referrals are welcomed from all agencies; however, referrals for assessments are usually only accepted with the knowledge and active support from local CAMHS tier 3 services.

The Portman FCAMHS service model is underpinned by a psychodynamic and attachment theoretical framework.

The core aim of the service is to support professional networks to understand the complex needs of young people who present with significant risk of harm to others through a community consultation model and an emphasis on reflective practice. The service does not, however, offer direct interventions to young people and their families.

About us

The post is based at the Portman Clinic. The Portman Clinic was founded in 1933 for the specific purpose of studying and treating delinquency and sexual deviancy.
