Job summary

The Research Lead plays a central role within the Portman Clinic in developing and administering the research programme and enhanced routine outcome monitoring and other research activities in the Portman Clinic. This involves the improvement of the routine outcome monitoring, liaising with clinicians in the Clinic to develop research ideas, writing grant proposals and with the role as lead researcher applying for research funding; and implementing and coordinating the various existing quantitative, qualitative and clinical research activities. With the support of the Director and the Head of Clinical Research, he or she is expected to recruit and manage personnel arising from this including research assistants.

The Research Psychologist will be expected to develop links with academic and clinical partners to further and support the research aims of the Clinic. They will also take a key role in representing the Portman Clinic's research activities within the Trust and outside the Trust. They will be expected to disseminate research through presentations at conferences and other events. The post offers excellent opportunities for personal and professional development.

Hours: 10 Programmed Activities per week (37.5 hours per week)

Main duties of the job

To further develop and implement the enhanced outcome monitoring strategy.

To further develop the research strategy that identifies the Portman Clinic research priorities and strategic goals, and sets out the structures and organizational plan to achieve these goals, as well as oversee implementation of these.

To take the lead in applying for research bids and partnership working with respect to successful research funding applications.

To manage and supervise research staff, including recruitment, appraisal, CPD, performance as well as relevant research training.

To provide support and advice to clinicians, trainees and other professions interested in carrying out a peace of research or who wish to develop research careers.

Essential

  • A PhD or Professional Doctorate in health or social science
  • Full knowledge of and skills in IT, data analysis progamme SPSS, STATA or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • A track record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience in supervising bachelors or masters students
  • Substantial knowledge of psychotherapy outcome and process research, especially in the psychodynamic/psychoanalytic field. Knowledge of and/or involvement with the researcher community, research activities, academic units, and a demonstrable understanding of the different issues that affect the different NHS sectors.
  • Conducting clinical, diagnostic research interviews, including the depression (HRSD) interview, personality disorder assessment (SCID for DSM 5) and a qualitative interview with both patients and clinicians, and of training others in these interviews
  • Knowledge of and/or involvement with the researcher community, research activities, academic units, and a demonstrable understanding of the different issues that affect the different NHS sectors

  • Personal experience of conducting clinical trials and other well-designed longitudinal research studies
