About the Personalised Programme for Children and Parents (PPCP) Team and PPC study

We are inviting applications from enthusiastic clinicians for two new full-time Highly Specialist posts with the PPCP (Personalised Programmes for Children and Parents Team). This is a short-term contract of two years and secondments will be welcomed. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver and contribute to the development of a new intervention for children with persistent conduct problems, as part of a Randomized Control trial, the Personalised Programmes for Children (PPC) study.

The PPCP is a newly developed, individual family intervention for children with complex conduct problems who have not responded to group parent training interventions or whose parents have not engaged in parent groups, for whatever reason. The PPC study is an RCT, evaluating whether the new PPCP programme is effective in helping these children, compared to a parent-led education and support programme (PLES). The PPCP programme is based on social learning theory, family domains theory, and attachment theory.

Child conduct problems commonly co-occur with attention problems, and these difficulties, if not successfully treated, are associated with adult anxiety and depression, in addition to criminal behaviour, substance misuse and significant relationship difficulties. High quality, evidence-based parent training programmes such as Incredible Years and Triple-P, when well delivered, have been shown to be effective for about 2/3 of children whose parents attend. However, a significant group do not respond, or do not engage. These children and families typically have complex difficulties and the PPC study is investigating whether a personalised, individual family approach could be effective, as compared to a parent-led support programme, which some parents say they would prefer.
