Job summary
The post holder will belong to the Psychotherapy Team in Adult Complex Service that clinically provides psychoanalytic assessment consultations for individuals and couples, and regular psychoanalytic psychotherapy in the forms of individual therapy with a wide range of frequencies from intermittent, once weekly, twice weekly and three times weekly, of weekly group therapy and of weekly couples therapy. The Psychotherapy Team also provide supervisions, clinical team meetings and consultations to trainees in various clinical courses held by DET (Department of Education and Training) in Tavistock Clinic, to honorary clinicians and internal and external colleagues in various settings.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to take on troubled and challenging patients with complex needs emotionally for psychoanalytic assessment consultations and regular brief psychoanalytic psychotherapy for individual patients.
The post holder is required to have substantive experiences of at least once weekly regular individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Assessment for suitability for psychoanalytically informed treatments offered here will form a core component of this post and the post holder should have experience of these and knowledge of the wider mental health systems locally that may also require referral to and liaison with. Ideally, the post holder is expected to have experience of providing intensive, more than three times a week, individual psychotherapy with close and regular supervisions by an experienced psychoanalytic psychotherapist/psychoanalyst and to obtain that qualification of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist/Psychoanalyst approved by British Psychoanalytical Council (BPC) or its equivalent organisation. The post holder should have worked long term and have some in depth experience of psychoanalytic psychotherapy with highly troubled patients such as personality disorder, bipolar disorder and latent psychosis.
