The City and Hackney Primary Care Psychotherapy Consultation Service (PCPCS) is an established yet innovative primary care service providing psychological therapies to patients whose presentations fall in the gaps between primary and secondary care.
Main duties of the job
As a clinician in PCPCS, you will be providing a blend of face to face and remote clinical work, namely assessments, time limited evidence based treatments, consultations to GP's, and where appropriate, supervision to trainees and other staff members working within the service. In addition to individual work, it would be desirable to be able to offer group psychotherapy and/or family interventions. You will contribute to the packages of care offered by the team, including reliably providing outcome monitoring data .
You will play a key role in nurturing close liaison with specific groups of GPs and other primary care staff, mental health professionals within the evolving Neighborhood teams and other statutory and voluntary sector agencies.

To provide specialist psychological/psychotherapeutic assessments of patients referred by GP.s and other mental health professionals within the neighborhood mental health teams. This takes the form of individual clinical assessment over two or more sessions. You would have some experience of using observation, interview, and taking detailed developmental, historical and bio-psycho-social history.According to experience and training or qualification you could take part in facilitating group therapies and offering preliminary assessment for psychotherapeutic groupwork. To formulate, devise and provide psychological/psychotherapeutic treatment, advice and management of referred clients, using a range of interventions and means of engagement appropriate to the service and in collaboration with referring GPs where possible and appropriate. To provide specialist psychological/psychotherapeutic advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals and agencies and to assist in the formulation, diagnosis and treatment of clients.To provide reports and communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients.To provide case management for patients; this will include coordinating care around the patient, supporting patients to access appropriate support networks and ensuring that such networks remain effective for the patients recovery.

- Post-graduate doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society or relevant qualification in nursing or social work or BPC recognised training in psychodynamic psychotherapy

- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary setting. Experience of working in either primary or secondary mental health care settings. Experience of specialist psychological assessment/psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment of individuals with a wide range of mental health problems, of varying severity and complexities.

- Specific experience of working with patients with complex mental health problems, including medically unexplained symptoms and personality disorder.
