Job responsibilities

Clinical

• To hold a caseload of direct work and consultative work with children and families, presenting with psychiatric disorders.
• To work as a highly skilled clinician within FAKT, a specialist CAMHS Team, with children, young people and their families providing an advanced, highly specialist systemic psychotherapy service.
• To be a member of a multi-disciplinary team, with psychology, child and adolescent psychotherapy, psychiatry, social work and family therapy.
• To be responsible for implementing a range of interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, adjusting and refining formulations and drawing upon core professional practice, and systemic theory.
• To oversee the running of family therapy clinics as part of the service offer.
• To support the development of the recently established Adoption Support Fund pathway offer.
• To attend team meetings, case conferences, CPAs and other meetings as appropriate and to work collaboratively with other team members, and other mental health organisations.
• To ensure that all members of the clinical team have access to a systemically based framework for the understanding and care of clients of the service, through the provision of advice and consultation and the dissemination of research and theory.
• To provide clinical supervision of trainees.
• To ensure that a clear risk assessment and risk management approach is undertaken when required for individual children and adolescents.
• To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of patients under their care.
• To liaise and work collaboratively with complex networks including colleagues in health, education and social services where necessary.
• To maintain a high standard of clinical records, preparing reports for internal use and for external agencies as required and maintaining good communications with referrers and other professionals involved.
• To contribute to the development of systemic thinking and therapeutic approaches within the team.
• To be a member of the systemic psychotherapy discipline within the Trust and contribute to the development of the discipline.

Teaching/Supervision

• To offer clinical supervision to members of the FAKT team as clinically appropriate.
• To provide direct teaching and live supervision as required.

Clinical and Research Governance

The post-holder must adhere to the Trusts clinical and research governance guidelines, which includes being responsible for keeping up-to-date and accurate clinical records. All research must be undertaken in line with the national Research Governance framework, and the post-holder should seek guidance from the Trust Research Directorate before embarking on any research project.

Service Development

To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the teams clinical governance, through participation in research, service evaluation and audit.

Continuing Professional Development

The post-holder will be invited to an annual appraisal with the head of the Systemic Psychotherapy discipline, in consultation with line managers which will include the formulation of a professional development plan and specific details of continuing professional development in relation to the tasks of the post and its development over time. It is expected that some study leave will be taken for attending conferences, reading relevant literature, writing papers for presentation at Tavistock-organised and other conferences. The potholder will be part of the systemic discipline and will be able to access meetings, workshops and supervision.

The post-holder will also be required to attend mandatory training events as set out in the Trusts Staff Training Policy which includes attendance at induction and ongoing training in fire safety, health and safety, infection control, risk management, safeguarding children and participate in clinical effectiveness activity and appraisal.

General

The post-holder will be required adhere to all Trust wide policies and procedures including: Equal Opportunities, Risk Management, Health and Safety, Safeguarding Children, Confidentiality and compliance with the Data Protection Act.

All clinical staff registered with a professional body are required to comply with the code of conduct of that professional body. The trust will take appropriate action when codes of conduct are breached.

ANNUAL LEAVE: 27 days on entry to the NHS, previous NHS service may increase this entitlement

General Information:

The post is covered by the Terms and Conditions of Service of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust and is subject to the National Health Service (Superannuation) Regulations.

The normal opening hours of the Clinic are 7.30 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. weekdays. The hours to be worked by the post-holder must be approved by the CYAF Director.

Person Specification

Qualification/Training/Education

Essential

• Masters level qualification in Systemic Psychotherapy.
• UKCP registered.
• Eligibility for registration with Health and Care Professions Council and commitment to register.

Desirable

• Registration as Systemic Supervisor with AFT/ willingness to train as a Supervisor after appointment.

Previous Experience

Essential

• Experience of working in the role of Systemic Psychotherapist with babies, young children and families, including the ability to evidence of working autonomously for a significant period post qualification.
• Experience of working with families from different and marginalized communities.

Desirable

• Experience of organising training initiatives.

Skills & Knowledge Continued

Essential

• Skills in providing consultation and support regarding systemic issues to other professionals.
• Awareness of appropriate clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of high quality clinical practice.

Other Requirements

Essential

• Evidence of personal resilience and aptitude for dealing with potentially distressing and highly emotional clinical work.
• Ability to be a constructive, collaborative and flexible team worker with an ability contexts. to work in different roles and
