Job summary

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and creative social worker or nurse with experience in managing the delivery of education and training. Working with a committed, small team and a wide range of teaching faculty, the postholder will oversee the portfolio of digital and short courses which vary in content, delivery format and length, including bespoke commissioned training. The role also includes working with external stakeholders to identify areas of new development to complement the existing provision to the health; social care and education workforce.

Heads of Portfolio will need to engage with the external environment in especially in relation to the relevant professional and workforce developments in their area of delivery to map relevant clinical and other employment pathways in all related sectors. The post holder will have the capacity to translate these developments into high quality Trust provision, working with the Head of Digital and Library Services to develop and deploy a range of blended delivery models, taking an active role in the implementation of the Trust's commitment to digital approaches in all our provision.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Portfolio will play a key role, reporting to the Director of Education, in the line management and operational delivery of the Trust's education and training provision. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of high quality teaching and an excellent student learning experience and learner outcomes. They will be operationally responsible for staff within the portfolio. This will include the line management of staff to ensure adherence to organisational policies, procedures and processes and to deliver consistent educational provision that meets learner andorganisational sponsor outcomes and the delivery of the education and training programmes. The post holder will be required to work closely with the Directors of Education to manage the resources of the portfolio ensuring efficient and accountable financial planning and implementation.

Developing effective relationships with key post holders in the Division and working closely with the Trust's academic partners, professional organisations and professional accrediting bodies i.e. AFT, BPC, HCPC and BPS will be an integral part of the role. The post will include responsibility for identifying and escalating issues and risks to the Directors of Education and advancing plans for the mitigation of risk.

The post holder will have specific responsibility for the portfolio, which delivers a wide range of the Trusts digital and short courses in areas including (but not limited to): Digital Academy courses Training for professionals at all levels within perinatal services Ongoing supervision and reflective practice in multidisciplinary settings Working with groups Leadership, resilience and change within the workplace Trauma and refugee care Child development, attachment and behaviour Training for school leaders and staff in educational settingsThe post holder will contribute to the development and implementation of strategy, advising and leading on the needs of a range of professions across the health and social care workforce. They will also lead on international developments.

Leadership

Work closely with the Directors of Education, Course Leads and their teams and professional services teams to manage and plan the portfolios organisation and functioning. This includes taking a key role in the identification and resolution of operational/logistical issues in effective course delivery. Organise and manage regular portfolio meetings and ensure regular liaison with course teams. Develop, review and evaluate Portfolio Equality Action Plans to inform and respond to EDI data reporting across Protected Characteristics. Meet fortnightly with the respective Director of Education and participate in the monthly Portfolio Management meetings. Work closely with the Development Project Manager, Head of Digital and Library Services and others to develop and implement new methods of delivery across the portfolio, including online and blended courses. Develop new and innovative learning opportunities across workforce bandings to cater for the differential training needs of staff in the health, social care, and voluntary sectors, including CPD, conferences and validated academic programmes. Prepare briefing reports for the Education & Training Executive, the Education & Training Committee and Trust Board of Directors as required. Contribute to the Tavistock academy activities including HEA fellowships

Staff Management

Line management of all relevant staff including recruitment, and performance management, adherence to policies, procedures, processes, and risk identification and management. Conducting regular appraisal and development review meetings, in order to review progress, set goals and ensure continuing professional and personal development. Lead and oversee staff in the development and implementation of systems and processes to manage the pipeline of existing DET business activity and opportunities within the areas of responsibility detailing all related business planning activity.
