Job summary

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust

Associate Director of Quality

Band 8C

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is a centre of excellence in clinical practice, training and innovation in mental health, emotional wellbeing, and gender identity.

For more than 100 years, the Tavistock and Portman has pioneered the theories, trainings and practices behind community-based approaches to improving mental health. Amongst others, it is the birthplace of attachment theory, which first described the importance of early bonding experiences between parents and children on their future emotional resilience.

Main duties of the job

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key senior role in the Nursing and Quality Directorate of the Trust, accountable for building and implementing the Quality strategy. Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, you will provide professional support and leadership to the Directorate while overseeing the management of quality assurance functions and support the delivery of Trust Quality Improvement.

We are looking to speak with motivated and compassionate leaders with excellent leadership skills and a successful track record of delivery in senior Nursing & Quality roles. You will support the organisation and our clinical divisions to provide best practice in Patient Experience, taking a positive and proactive role in supporting and developing a culture of compassion, belonging and inclusion, where all staff feel safe and confident to express views and raise concerns.

In return, you could be part of an aspirational journey, in which there is support and enthusiasm to be innovative, to ensure the Trust develops a leading Nursing and Quality function.

About us

between parents and children on their future emotional resilience.

Today we work with people of all ages, helping them to address mental and emotional wellbeing, complex mental illness, and gender identity issues in a relational and holistic way. Our distinctive therapeutic approaches reduce the need for crisis responses, keep people safe and better able to cope. We do this by seeking a deep understanding of people's experiences and relationships, encouraging reflection, focusing on strengths and building hope.

Wherever possible we favour early intervention in community settings, either through our own clinicians or by supporting other professionals. Where people are already experiencing severe or complex mental health problems, we bring together a wide range of staff to devise care plans which best match an individual's needs and specific circumstances. We work to support the network around a patient, whether in schools, children services, primary care, prisons, the criminal justice system, family courts, other mental health services.

Our educators, who are also clinicians, are specialists in training and supervising others to also manage complexity in health care practice and in organisational life. In 2020 the Trust was the first NHS body successful in obtaining registration with the Office for Students (OfS). We are passionate about the quality of our work and committed to openness, the use of evidence and the application of improvement science.
