Job summary
Paediatric shared care supports children, young people and their families with oncological and haematological disorders requiring complex chemotherapy and other treatments. We are looking for an enthusiastic paediatric nurse to join the POSCU team at Newham University Hospital. You must be competent to give intravenous bolus and infusional chemotherapy and have experience of working within paediatric oncology. A flexible approach with a dedication to providing an excellent level of patient care and experience is required. Being ready and willing to learn new skills is fundamental.
The post-holder is expected to work with a specified case load of children, young people and their families with minimal supervision once appropriate training and assessment of competence has been undertaken. The post holder will work within the friendly POSCU multidisciplinary team at Newham University Hospital to provide support and treatment for children and young people in hospital and at home. The post holder will see in-patient oncology children in Rainbow ward, attend supervised on-treatment and long term follow up clinics, and attend to children and young people accessing the Day Unit.
Main duties of the job
1. Providing clinical care to all children within POSCU both at home and in hospital, including giving intravenous bolus chemotherapy via central venous access devices.
2. Providing and co-ordinating supportive care including blood product support.
3. Acts as a first port of call to provide liaison for families and children/young people with cancer at diagnosis and throughout the treatment journey.
