Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the leadership team of NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership (ESEL) in our journey to excellence. Applications are invited for the position of Haematology Scientific Lead for our Network.

The successful applicant will need to be enthusiastic, share our vision of a high-quality haematology service, and must be suitably qualified and highly experienced in Haematology. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position.

The role is to provide management and leadership for the Haematology services across the ESEL Pathology network and is accountable for leading and managing the delivery and development of Haematology across all seven Pathology Partnership laboratory sites, with the potential for expansion. The post holder plays a major part in the coordination, development and implementation of complex services and transformation that will improve the efficiency and quality of our Haematology services.

The post holder will take a strategic lead in the continuing provision of a high quality and responsive service that is UKAS ISO15189 accreditation compliant and will work collaboratively with ESEL's Quality and Governance Team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake management and leadership responsibility for promoting the continuous improvement in service delivery and quality within all areas of Haematology across the Pathology Partnership using modern methods and technology to lead in the delivery of service and workforce transformation and re-design.

The post-holder will be responsible for the Haematology departments across the Pathology Partnership, managing the work of staff in the departments and developing a culture in which staffs are continuously improving the delivery of high quality services.

The post-holder will ensure the parity of service delivery across all sites; the development and acceptance of challenging, but realistic objectives for staff and through leadership, motivation and systematic performance management, achieve the required results in line with financial, scientific and strategic objectives.

About us

The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.The Pathology Partnership was formed in May 2021. Between 2021 and 2024 the Partnership undertook a complex transformation programme to establish a single network of laboratories, underpinned by a single Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and single Quality Management System (QMS).The Partnership has a main hub laboratory at the Royal London Hospital and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at the six other hospital sites served by the Partnership.The Partnership has three operational divisions:o Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistryo Microbiology and Virologyo Cellular Pathology and Cancer DiagnosticsThe 2024/25 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £121m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 860 WTE.We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging.
