Rotational Occupational Therapist

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen on the band 6 Occupational Therapy rotation for 1 year maternity leave cover at Barts Health NHS Trust. This is a rotational post, aimed at consolidating and enhancing knowledge and experience across acute rotations at The Royal London Hospital, Major Trauma Centre and St Bartholomew's Hospital, Tertiary Centre for heart and cancer care. The role provides high quality patient assessment, treatment and intervention as part the specialist therapy team on each rotation.

We are looking for a highly skilled, innovative and passionate individual to join our Band 6 Occupational Therapy team. The Royal London Hospital & St Bartholomew's Hospital Band 6 Occupational Therapy rotation involves 9-month rotations across a range of diverse areas including:

Hand Therapy

Neurosciences

Major Trauma and Orthopaedics

Stroke (HASU and ASU)

Cardiac surgery and Cardiology

Vascular and Amputees

Oncology

Acute Assessment Unit

Specialist Medicine

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, autonomous and dynamic individual who is committed to further improving their clinical assessment and activity analysis skills and providing high quality, timely and effective services to patients and the organisation.

Please note:

Occupational Therapists within Barts Health are expected to be part of the weekend working rota

Main duties of the job

To provide evidence-based, functional assessments, treatment and discharge planning to patients within the clinical speciality.

To provide advanced cognitive, motor, sensory and perceptual assessments and treatments for patients with complex needs.

To provide specialist advice and information to patients, carers and other professionals.

To perform manual handling tasks such as the hoisting and/or transfer of patients, fitting of ADL equipment, and basic IT skills.

To participate in evidence-based audit and service development projects relevant to the area of speciality will be carried out in conjunction with the Senior Therapists (OT/PT) in order to ensure high standards of care & service development are maintained and improved upon.

To provide supervision and support learning and development of other staff including band 5 occupational therapists, support workers and students.

To participate in the Band 6 rotational scheme working across the Barts Health NHS Trust sites which will require working in a range of ward settings and departments including:

- Hand Therapy

- Neurosciences (Neuro-Trauma/Trauma-Ortho)

- Stroke (HASU and ASU)

- Cardiac surgery and Cardiology

- Vascular and Amputees

- Oncology

- Acute Assessment Unit

- Specialist Medicine

- Health Care of the Elderly
