Consultant in Respiratory Medicine (Specialist Interest in Integrated Care) (6 months FTC)
Newham University Hospital - Barts Health NHS Trust
We're looking for an ambitious and forward-thinking Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with a special interest in Integrated Care to join our thriving team at Newham University Hospital.
Why join us?
At Barts Health, we're proud to be at the forefront of integrated respiratory care. Our highly successful Respiratory Virtual Ward--staffed by a dedicated team of nurses and physiotherapists--has been recognised nationally for improving outcomes, reducing admissions, and empowering patients to manage their conditions at home.
This post offers you the chance to build on that success, driving innovation in care for people with COPD, asthma, and bronchiectasis, and leading the way in developing new community pathways across North East London.
Main duties of the job
The role
As part of a supportive and growing consultant body, you will:
Provide consultant-led inpatient respiratory care, including bronchoscopy and pleural procedures, on our brand-new Upton Park respiratory ward.
Work closely with primary care, community teams and our Virtual Ward to deliver truly integrated, patient-centred services.
Lead multidisciplinary meetings and educational sessions across care settings.
Contribute to the acute general medical rota (currently 1 in 18, well supported by senior resident doctors).
Take an active role in teaching, training, research and quality improvement.
What we offer you
The chance to be part of one of the largest and most diverse NHS trusts in the UK, with rich opportunities for collaboration and development.
A state-of-the-art recently opened respiratory ward, co-designed with staff and patients, offering modern clinical spaces and welcoming environments.
Trust-funded leadership development and mentorship from experienced consultants.
Protected time for education, research and innovation, with links to Queen Mary University of London and UCLPartners.
A culture built on our WeCare values--welcoming, collaborative, accountable, respectful, and equitable.
About us
Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain's leading healthcare providers.
The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.
