Lead Nurse in Nutrition Support

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Specialist Nurse, to lead our Nutrition Specialist Nursing team in delivering safe and effective care in artificial Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition support.

By integrating the four key aspects of clinical practice, service management, research and education, the post holder will lead and collaborate with the Gastroenterology/Human Nutrition and Intestinal Failure Multidisciplinary Team, tofurther develop and monitor standards of nutritional care.

Experience in Nutrition Specialist Nursing with an understanding of Leadership and quality improvement is key to this role. The post holder should be an innovative and committed leader, who can inspire and lead on patient care.

Main duties of the job

Manage and lead a workforce of specialist nurses (i.e. across a Division).

Service and budget management, ensuring high quality, cost-effective healthcare.

Be responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence-based care.

Responsible for the assessment, planning, diagnosis implementation and evaluation of care, as an autonomous practitioner with highly specialist skills and experience.

Contribution within The Barts Health NHS Trust and The Central London Intestinal Failure Partnership, Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition Companies, as well as policy development, co-chairing responsibilities and attendance at divisional and Trust wide Nutrition meetings.

Be involved in the strategic review of clinical services as appropriate.

The role demands the commitment to provide specialist nutritional clinical support to patients, their families/carers and health professionals throughout the Trust. The successfulapplicant will work closely with theAdult Nutrition Support multidisciplinary team to ensure a high quality of care is delivered to patients.There will be opportunities to work across Barts Health as the service develops.

  • Post qualification experience
  • Relevant experience of enteral and parenteral nutrition.

Desirable

  • Specialist expertise underpinned by theoretical knowledge, and broad experience in the management of highly complex patients receiving artificial nutritional support
  • Level of understanding and working within the clinical governance framework
  • Understanding of legal and professional ethics and their application in practice

  • Ability to problem solve, analyse complex clinical problems and create practical solutions to provide best clinical care
  • Leadership skills.
  • Ability to undertake audit and change practice in accordance to findings.
  • Computer Literacy.
  • Good organisational skills, able to work effectively as an autonomous practitioner, set priorities and meet deadlines in spite of repeated interruptions
