Job summary

Applications are invited from a Practitioner Psychologist to join the Psychology Service in Infection & Immunity at Barts Health NHS Trust.

We are hoping to recruit a Practitioner Psychologist with specialist interests in psychology as applied to HIV and sexual health. Interest in group work and 3rd Wave CBT approaches is desirable. Being able to assist in developing a stepped-care model for psychosexual services is also desirable. The post holder will also contribute to the HIV clinics to promote better engagement with 'hard to reach' and vulnerable patients. The post holder may also be expected to work at our sexual health service in Stratford and/or our HIV clinic at Newham Hospital.

The Psychology Service enjoys good close working relationships with the multi-disciplinary teams in Infection & Immunity. We are an energetic and supportive team offering excellent professional support, supervision and CPD. There is a wealth of specialist clinical expertise, and the service has an active audit, research and teaching programme. There are also close links with North London Clinical Psychology training courses, Queen Mary Medical School and local Psychosexual Therapy training programmes.

Main duties of the job

This post involves the provision of specialist psychological assessment and therapeutic support to patients from Infection & Immunity at Barts Health from across East London. This work will involve both HIV and sexual health services at three locations (Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, Sir Ludwig Guttmann Health Centre, Stratford and Greenway Clinic, Newham University Hospital). Clinical provision will consist of individual/couples psychological therapy as well as psycho-educational workshops and occasional neuropsychological assessments in the HIV clinic.

The post holder will also contribute to our multi-disciplinary staff teaching programme to promote psychosocial knowledge and skills in responding to the psychosocial needs of our service users.

The post holder will also contribute to audit, research and service development. The post holder will further the practice of psychosexual counselling, by assisting in service development, audit/evaluation and clinical governance.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent, if trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Eligible for BPS Chartered Clinical Psychology Status
  • HCPC registration (application submitted if recently qualified)

Desirable

  • BABCP membership (or eligible)

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as a trainee or qualified clinical or counselling psychologist.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, in-patient and out-patient care settings including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan.
