Job summary

The Community Children's Nursing Team is part of an Integrated Service for Disabled Children operating within a wider service system encompassing Acute and Community Services.The team needs to evolve to take account of the need for greater integration to meet the challenging needs of local children in the borough.The team provides care for children between the ages of 0-19 years who are in need of nursing care at home or in an education setting.An opportunity has arisen to appoint a term time only, Band 5 Special School nurse. The post holder will be predominantly based at Beatrice Tate Special Needs school for pupils aged 11-19, but may need to rotate across the other 2 sites when necessary.

Main duties of the job

The aim of the role is to help deliver nursing care, support, training and advice to meet the needs of the children/young people and their parents/carers within Stephen Hawking and Beatrice Tate special needs schools.

  • RSCN / RN Child with current registration
  • Good knowledge and understanding of equal opportunities and how this affects practice, staff and service users
  • Good knowledge of key health- related issues affecting children

  • Good understanding of the role of multidisciplinary team work with children with complex needs.

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level or working towards it
  • Specialist Community Public Health Qualification.

Experience

  • 6 months post registration Children's nursing experience
