Job summary

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced paediatric nurse to lead on improving care and services for our children under the Paediatric Plastic Surgery Team at The Royal London Hospital. The Royal London Children's Hospital is a specialist tertiary paediatric hospital with 109 inpatient beds, a bustling medical and surgical day care and a large specialty, surgical and general paediatrics outpatient service.

The post holder will work as an expert/autonomous CNS, delivering a specialist service for trauma and elective paediatric plastic surgery patients, whilst also working in collaboration with the multidisciplinary and community teams. The CNS will take a lead role as an expert practitioner providing advice, information, support and holistic care to patients and their families from the point of referral, through treatment and post op period at The Royal London Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead on service improvements by developing and improving follow up pathways for paediatric patients utilising community nurse-led wound reviews and dressing changes following injury or surgery.

The post is based at The Royal London Hospital located in Whitechapel, London. This is a 12 month, fixed term , full-time post with consolidated hours, but flexible working requests may be considered if they are in line with the needs of the Hospital.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality, individualised care to paediatric patients and their parents / relatives / carers being treated under the Plastic Surgery team at Barts Health. The post holder will work as an expert to deliver a specialist service to a trauma and elective paediatric plastic surgery patients being cared for in the Trust, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

To ensure an efficient and well-managed pathway for all paediatric plastic surgery patients from referral to discharge, in line with local and national performance targets and to improve their overall patient experience and clinical outcomes.

To develop and improve follow up pathways for paediatric patients utilising community nurse-led wound reviews and dressing changes following injury or surgery.

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Educated to degree level
  • Safeguarding Children level 3

Desirable

  • Evidence of further study since qualification.
  • A relevant post-registration course
  • Nurse education qualification
  • Masters or willingness to undertake
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

  • Extensive experience a Band 6 or above
  • Experience working in a plastic surgery or acute paediatric setting
  • Advanced knowledge of wound care and dressings - particularly in relation to paediatric patients
  • Able to demonstrate professional and clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with the post
  • Have a clear understanding of clinical governance
