Trust Doctor (ST6-ST10) Neonatal Medicine

Barts Health NHS Trust

The closing date is 15 April 2025

Job summary

The post is intended to provide an opportunity for those aspiring neonatologists/paediatricians wishing to further their neonatal experience in a tertiary medico-surgical NICU. This experience should leave candidates well placed for a successful application to join a national training scheme in Paediatrics, or to prepare for GRID applications in Neonatology during a break from Paediatric training, orfor candidates wishing to have senior neonatalexperience before taking a consultant post. It would also provide the opportunity to revise and enhance neonatal skills post-CCT in preparation for Consultant posts.

The neonatal unit at the Royal London Hospital provides tertiary medical and surgical neonatal care and has eleven medical intensive care, twelve high-dependency and fourteen special care cots. There is close consultant supervision and training is given in all aspects of neonatal intensive care. Although the post does not have formal educational approval, Clinical Fellows have the same opportunities to participate in the educational programmes, training and teaching undertaken by the Deanery approved specialist training doctors.

Eligibility for GMC registration with licence to practice is essential. We would welcome applications from international medical graduates whom are looking to apply for GMC registration via the RCPCH MTI scheme.

The rota is a full shift system subject to regular compliance monitoring.

Main duties of the job

NTS operates three daytime transfer teams: 2 dual clinicians (Doctor or ANNP and Nurse) crews responding to emergency uplifts, one single clinician team focusing on repatriations and an overnight dual clinician emergency team. A dedicated 24/7 NTS Consultant Neonatologist is available for clinical and operational support. Rotating trainees usually lead an average of 80-100 emergency transfers during 6 months. Doctors are able to log your transfers and reflect on practice as each emergency transfer is debriefed. Being co-located with the neonatal unit and working in a collaborative arrangement, there is ready access to the NTS, neonatal unit, paediatric and regional grid neonatal teaching programmes.
