An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated individual to join the Respiratory Medicine department at St. Bartholomew's Hospital on a Full time basis. We are seeking to recruit a Respiratory Physiologist to join our expanding team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Respiratory Physiologist to become part of an innovative service at Barts Health NHS Trust. The post holder will be based at St Bartholomew's and will be required to do some work at the satellite laboratory at the Royal London Hospital and Mile End Hospital. We have a fully functioning, modern lung function laboratory providing all the usual tests including spirometry, transfer factor, lung volumes (body box), ear-lobe capillary blood gases and cardio-pulmonary exercise tests. For our specialist asthma and allergy service, we perform histamine challenges and skin prick testing lung clearance index (LCI) testing and Impulse Oscilometry (IOS). For our tertiary Sleep and Ventilation patients, we perform inpatient and outpatient sleep studies including multi-channel polygraphy and overnight oximetry. We also have the ability to do Hypoxic Challenge tests and shunt testing. We hope to develop the Sleep service to provide nocturnal capnography and full polysomnography in the future.

The post holder would have a science degree (Bsc) or equivalent, alongside evidence of relevant clinical competency to perform the role at its base level.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based at St. Bartholomew's and may be required to do some work at the satellite laboratories at the Royal London Hospital and Mile End Hospital. The post holder will work within the main trust department, contributing to core respiratory and sleep diagnostic services in both inpatients and outpatients. This will involve performing diagnostic respiratory tests such as spirometry, transfer factor, lung volumes (body box), ear-lobe blood gases, supporting with cardio-pulmonary exercise tests, skin prick testing, lung clearance index (LCI) testing (pending), and Impulse Oscillometry (IOS). As well as this, the post holder will be inpatient and outpatient sleep studies, including multi-channel polygraphy and overnight oximetry. Responsibilities will also include supporting the delivery of patient-centred care, contributing to the development and implementation of innovative diagnostic pathways in partnership with the wider respiratory team, ensuring smooth operation and high standards of care, maintaining equipment, and assisting with quality assurance and improvement processes.
