Specialty Registrar (ST3+) in Stroke Medicine

Job summary

These are middle-grade posts providing medical cover to the 26-bedded stroke unit at the Royal London Hospital. These comprise 12 hyperacute (HASU) beds serving the inner North East sector of London (one of the 8 London HASUs and one of the 5 London Thrombectomy centres) plus 14 acute stroke unit (ASU) beds for Tower Hamlets.

There is a resident out of hours oncall commitment working a 1:9 rota covering thrombolysis and thrombectomy calls, stroke referrals and stroke inpatients. This post attracts an oncall banding supplement as per the new contract.

You will be joining the department at a particularly exciting time, having been commissioned as one of the 5 thrombectomy centres in London. You will be working as part of a highly committed team in one of the largest hospitals in Europe with state of the art facilities for stroke.

Main duties of the job

Attending A&E as part of the thrombolysis / thrombectomy team

Daily review of HASU/ASU in-patients with attendance at daily board rounds

Weekly ASU MDTs

Weekly Stroke & TIA Outpatient Clinics

Ward referrals

Weekly teaching for undergraduate and elective students

Presenting cases at weekly neurovascular and audit meetings

Supporting junior medical staff
