Job summary

The post would be based at the Newham Hospital and is part of Barts NHS Trust.

This would typically suit anyone wishing to undertake further training in a medical specialty and education prior to or as part of an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from their training programme. For the latter prior agreement must be sought with the relevant Specialty Training Committee (STC) and Deanery

You will be expected to have at least two years of accredited Foundation Programme Training, be on track to pass your ARCP and have previous experience in delivering education.

The post will have opportunities to be involved in other teaching programmes including Foundation Trainees and interdisciplinary simulation training.

The Education Academy within Barts Health is expanding in response to the need with increasing numbers of students and trainees and commitment to offer the best educational experience for our trainees. There is a real need to ensure that students receive excellent educational opportunities, including access to emerging digital technologies.

Barts Health Simulation Service has four dedicated Simulation and Essential Clinical Skills Centres based at Newham Hospital, Whipps Cross University Hospital, St Bartholomew's and the Royal London. Each of these centres has a proud history of being innovative and award winning. These departments are teaching areas with fully equipped simulation and clinical skills teaching and Haptic Clinical Skills facilities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have the opportunity to work across sites with other education fellows. All fellows joining our team will be invited to join our Education Forum where fellows have access to a structured development programme. All our fellows are encouraged to undertake a PG Cert in Education. For those who already have this there will be an opportunity to undertake ILM3 (Leadership & Management Course). Funding will be available towards supporting this.

The contract is 12 month, fixed-term and is full time, 0.4 WTE within Education and 0.6 WTE clinical work relevant speciality. The educational time will be divided between the Graduate Programme Education Delivery and supporting other specialities and disciplines within other areas of Education such as simulation and clinical skills.The post holder would be responsible for their own personal development plan, with regards to both service and educational work. Regular appraisal must be undertaken with their clinical supervisor, and the Associate Dean for Undergraduates.
