Job summary

The Education Academy within Barts Health is expanding in response to the need with increasing numbers of students and trainees and commitment to offer the best educational experience for our trainees. There is a real need to ensure that students receive excellent tuition and that trainees have the best possible educational supervision. In line with our Education Strategy, we intend to improve education by building an Education Fellow faculty base made up of Specialty Teaching Fellows who contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate training and support Inter-professional Innovations.

Barts Health Simulation Service has four dedicated Simulation and Essential Clinical Skills Centres based at Newham University Hospital, Whipps Cross University Hospital, St Bartholomew's and the Royal London. Each of these centres has a proud history of being innovative and award winning. These departments are teaching areas with fully equipped simulation and clinical skills teaching and Haptic Clinical Skills facilities.

The successful post holder for this post will be involved primarily with developing educational opportunities for Obstetrics and Gynaecology through a wide range of teaching modalities including simulation based training, clinical skills, lectures, teaching clinics and bedside teaching.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainees with NHS experience (ST5 and above) with an interest in Medical Education, and Simulation. One post would be based at the Whipps Cross site, one post at Newham Hospital and one post at the Royal London Site, all of which are part of Barts NHS Trust.The post will have opportunities to be involved in other teaching programmes including undergraduate medical trainees, Foundation Trainees, and interdisciplinary simulation training.

The post holder will have the opportunity to work across sites with other education fellows. All fellows joining our team will be invited to join our Education Forum where fellows have access to a structured development programme. All our fellows are encouraged to undertake a PG Cert in Education. For those who already have this there will be an opportunity to undertake ILM3 (Leadership & Management Course). Funding will be available towards supporting this.
